Ridge pointed to demonstrations in 2024 that showcased the technology running efficiently on older mobile devices."These prototypes, combined with software designed for broader use, suggest that VVC's mobile applications could soon reach commercial deployment," he explained.Challenges and Key Considerations for AdoptionDespite its promise, the adoption of VVC is not without challenges. Ridge emphasized that deploying a new codec requires careful consideration of several factors. In industries like telecommunications, spectrum and bandwidth efficiency are critical. VVC's ability to deliver high-quality video at lower bitrates offers a potential solution to spectrum saturation, providing an incentive for adoption."Another challenge lies in managing fragmentation and compatibility. While VVC provides clear benefits, organizations must also consider how to maintain support for legacy systems during the transition. For example, broadcasters cannot afford to alienate audiences with older devices that lack VVC compatibility," said Ridge.The logistical complexities of integrating VVC into workflows also pose hurdles. From video production to transmission and decoding, the entire ecosystem must support the new codec for it to succeed. Ridge pointed out that timing is key; organizations must carefully align their efforts with broader industry readiness to maximize the benefits of adoption.The ROI of VVCFor organizations considering VVC, the potential return on investment is a compelling factor. On this front, Ridge noted that VVC has a lot going for its immediate and long-term future."This technology's coding efficiency is unparalleled, enabling organizations to achieve higher video quality at lower bitrates. Fort Harrison Ave in downtown Clearwater, in order to raise awareness on the truth behind racism for Black History Month.The open house, themed "Is Racism Alive Today?" will shed light on why African-American and Hispanic children in predominantly white school districts are classified as "learning disabled" more often than whites in the United States. As well as how this labeling leads to millions of minority children being prescribed mind-altering drugs.From apartheid in South Africa to the Ku Klux Klan and experiments on minorities in the United States, the most brutal racists were inspired by eugenics, which justified injustice, inhumanity and denial of human dignity to millions. The driving force behind eugenics was Benjamin Rush, the "father of American psychiatry", who declared that the color of "Blacks" was caused by a rare, inherited disease called "negritude," derived from leprosy. The only evidence of a "cure" was when the skin color turned white. Psychiatrists even labeled Black slaves who wanted to run away from their captivity with "Drapetomania" which comes from "drapetes" a runaway slave and "mania" meaning crazy. The recommended treatment for this disorder was, "whipping the devil out of them".The term "eugenics" meaning "good genes" was invented in 1883 by an English psychologist named Francis Galton who said the idea that people are of equal value is "undeniably wrong and cannot last," and insisted that any charity to the poor and ill should require that they agree to abstain from having children.Further, in 1923, J.T. Dunston, a British psychiatrist and South Africa's Commissioner of Mental Hygiene, claimed, "…the native, even of the best tribes, possibly belongs to a race which is mentally inferior to ours."Then in the 1950s, psychologist Lewis Terman claimed that "Mexicans, Indians and Blacks" should never be allowed to have children. At the same time, well-known eugenicist Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, endorsed sterilization as the "cure" for racial inferiority.Documented examples of such "scientific" evaluations have been released repeatedly up to recent times. Yet today, a search brings up scores of promotional messages from U.S. mental health groups, exhorting minorities to ignore the "stigma" associated with mental treatments.Since 1969, CCHR has worked in the field of human rights and mental health reform, and has investigated the racist influence of the mental health professions on the Nazi Holocaust, apartheid, the cultural assault of the Australian Aboriginal people, New Zealand Maoris and Native American Indians, and the current discrimination against Blacks across the world.Psychiatry and psychology's racist ideologies continue to light the fires of racism locally and internationally to this day. Mental Health Industry Watchdog CCHR Calls for Nationwide Ban, Citing History of Abuse and Fatalities in Troubled Teen IndustryLOS ANGELES - Feb. 3, 2025 - PRLog -- A top North Carolina health official is calling for a ban on wilderness therapy camps in the state following the tragic death of a 12-year-old boy at a now-closed wilderness therapy facility.[1] The mental health industry watchdog, Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR), supports this action and urges the prohibition of such camps nationwide to ensure the safety of youths seeking help.In his final weeks as North Carolina's Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kody Kinsley spoke to local media, stating that he believes wilderness therapy camps should be permanently outlawed in the state. His remarks follow the February 2024 death of a child at a camp in the western part of the state, which the NC Department of Health has since closed. The boy suffocated after being zipped into a sleeping bag with a device that prevented him from opening it. An autopsy later ruled his death a homicide."I don't think wilderness therapy camps have a place in our continuum of care in North Carolina," Kinsley said. "The law needs to be changed to permanently remove these licenses, so they don't exist." He expressed deep sympathy for the families affected by such tragedies, emphasizing the need to prevent other parents from experiencing similar heartbreak.To implement this change, Kinsley emphasized that new legislation must be passed by the North Carolina General Assembly. CCHR suggests this could potentially be achieved by amending NC Codes to explicitly exclude wilderness therapy camps from being licensed as residential child-care facilities. Similarly, amendments to Licensing Procedures could specify that facilities employing wilderness-based therapeutic models are not eligible for licensure under mental health or substance use disorder treatment provisions.[2] The organization has urged state lawmakers to take action by inquiring with the Department about how wilderness camps can be prohibited under the state's health regulations.In recent years, wilderness therapy camps have been widely scrutinized nationwide. A USA Today investigation in December 2022 revealed that many former participants described their experiences as negative and traumatizing, with some noting that these camps often serve as a gateway to longer-term residential treatment centers.[3] CCHR, which has been exposing abuse in these camps since the early 1990s, cites reports of deaths, mistreatment, and deceptive practices that have gone largely unregulated.[4] In 1995 there were almost 400 wilderness camps in the U.S.[5]A 2008 report by the U.S. Government Accountability Office documented abuse and deaths across these facilities, and more recent findings by Breaking Code Silence estimate that 150,000 to 200,000 children are enrolled in over 2,000 such programs nationwide, which includes 40 wilderness camps.[6] In Utah, the number of wilderness camps dropped 64% from 14 in 2014 to just five in 2023.[7]With the decline came a decrease in deaths. Nationally, deaths in these facilities decreased by 81%, from 142 in the 2000s to 27 in the 2020s.[8]Despite a decline in the number of wilderness camps due to increased scrutiny, CCHR argues that wilderness therapy camps are still a risk to vulnerable youth and should be prohibited.The group, which was established in 1969 by the Church of Scientology and professor of psychiatry, Dr. Thomas Szasz, helped secure federal protections in the late 1990s against restraint use in mental health residential hospitals. It has helped secure hundreds of laws and regulations worldwide that provide protections to mental health patients and their families.CCHR is calling for a comprehensive overhaul of the troubled teen industry, part of which will be addressed by the recently passed federal Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act, which establishes a study to ultimately help prevent child abuse in youth residential programs. However, as the study may take several years, CCHR wants regulations now to impose robust penalties on facilities found abusing children and youths, including stronger regulations to revoke facility licenses and penalties for violations of vulnerable youth. Citizen-Led Initiative Proposes Bold Reforms to Ensure Fair Voting, Prevent Fraud, and Set a New National Gold Standard for Election IntegrityCHARLESTON, W.Va. - Feb. 4, 2025 - PRLog -- Citizens for West Virginia Election Integrity (C4WVEI) is calling for immediate reforms to protect election integrity across the state in order to provide full transparency and security in our elections. Founded in late 2023, this volunteer-driven organization seeks to improve public trust by advocating for legislative actions that ensure all votes are legally cast, transparently and accurately counted, and fully auditable. By collaborating with state election officials and lawmakers, C4WVEI is committed to making West Virginia a national leader in election transparency and fairness.  Based in part on C4WVEI efforts, the West Virginia Legislature has now established an Election Integrity Caucus that is actively addressing these issues.  C4WVEI has also established a Registration Audit Center to help election officials purge invalid records from our Voter Registration database.Full Transparency is KeyC4WVEI demands full transparency in our elections through a redesign of the process.  Citizens feel that there is currently insufficient transparency in our elections, enabling corrupt organizations to manipulate the process and unfairly "select" their preferred winning candidate, thereby bypassing and undermining fair election practices (6).  To address this, many prominent American citizens in both political parties have come out in favor of eliminating machine tabulation and requiring photo ID, among other important factors.  Although there are many keys to achieving full transparency, two areas that demand transparency are 1) registration and 2) tabulation.  All of us generally trust our checking accounts because we can see a statement of individual transactions and their effect on the adjusted balance – we need the same transparency in our election tabulation process.  We also need to verify that the choices we submit to the ballot box are maintained throughout the system.Urgency of the SituationSeveral recent scientific surveys document that a majority of U.S. citizens currently distrust our election process (1,2). Reports indicate that 20% of mail-in voters in the 2020 election admitted to engaging in voter fraud (3).  Voting machine vulnerabilities are identified in the 2020 film "Kill Chain: The Cyber War on America's Elections" and other more recent videos.  According to a June, 2024 survey, 66% of voters believed the outcome of the 2024 Presidential Election would be affected by cheating (4).  Also, citizens have serious concerns about non-citizens voting and efforts to register illegal voters further emphasize the need for these reforms (5).Identified VulnerabilitiesC4WVEI has identified multiple vulnerabilities in the state's election processes.  We are working with the WV Secretary of State's office, the WV Legislature, and county election officials to address these issues.
